Even with weekly pool service, things can build up fast — especially with San Angelo’s wind, heat, and hard water. If you want your pool to stay clean and clear all week long, here are a few simple steps to follow between professional cleanings.
🧹 1. Skim the Surface Daily (If You Can)
The West Texas wind loves dumping leaves, pollen, and bugs into your pool. A quick daily skim (even just 2–3 minutes) can prevent this debris from sinking, rotting, and messing with your water balance.
💡 Don’t let leaves break down — they feed algae and use up chlorine faster.
🧺 2. Empty Your Skimmer and Pump Baskets
If your baskets are full, your water can’t flow correctly. That means less filtration and more debris staying in the water.
- Check baskets every 2–3 days
- Be sure to turn off the pump before removing them
- Rinse them out if needed
🌀 3. Run Your Pump Consistently
Circulation is key. Most pools in San Angelo should run the pump for 6–8 hours a day during warmer months — longer if your pool gets heavy use or debris.
If you’re not sure how long to run yours, ask us on our next visit or shoot us a text.
🧪 4. Use Test Strips to Spot Imbalances
You don’t have to be a chemist — just check pH and chlorine midweek:
- Chlorine: 1.0–3.0 ppm
- pH: 7.2–7.6
- Stabilizer/CYA: 30–50 ppm
If anything looks way off, text us and we’ll walk you through it or schedule an extra stop.
🧼 5. Brush the Steps or Trouble Spots
Algae loves corners, steps, and shady areas. Brushing them even once a week helps your chemicals work better and prevents buildup.
💬 Bonus: Use a Solar Cover or Leaf Net (If It’s Windy)
If a storm or cold front’s rolling in, throw on a solar cover or leaf net to keep junk out. It can save hours of cleanup later — and keep your filter from clogging up.
💡 Don’t Overdo It
Some customers try to shock their pool between visits — but if you’re already on weekly service, that’s usually not needed (and might throw off our balancing).
Stick to skimming, basket emptying, and brushing — we’ll handle the rest.
